Member Spotlight: How Sophie Found More Than Just a Gym

Sometimes the best decisions happen by accident.

Five months ago, Sophie wasn’t new to fitness, but she was looking for something that would finally stick. She had tried community centre classes, F45, OrangeTheory, and just about everything in between, searching for a place where she felt challenged, supported, and excited to show up.

Then one day, she took a wrong turn into our plaza.

“I drove past while a class was happening, parked my truck, and signed up!”

That spontaneous decision has completely changed the way she looks at fitness.

Building Strength and Confidence

In just five months, Sophie has accomplished things she never thought possible.

She’s completed her first RX workout, celebrated her first pull-up, learned how to lift heavy with confidence, and continues to surprise herself every week.

More importantly, she’s discovered that progress isn’t just about what happens on the whiteboard—it’s about believing you’re capable of more than you thought.

A Community That Changes Everything

When asked what keeps her coming back, Sophie’s answer was immediate.

“The coaching, the community, and the satisfaction after completing a class… YES, I DID THAT!“

She was also surprised by how welcoming everyone was from day one.

“Everyone is so nice, encouraging, and supportive. No matter your background, the day you’re having, or the goals you’ve set, everyone is here to cheer each other on.”

It’s something we hear often from new members. While the workouts might bring people through the doors, it’s the friendships and encouragement that keep them coming back.

Breaking the CrossFit Stereotypes

Even after more than 15 years in the fitness industry, Sophie admits she believed some of the common misconceptions about CrossFit.

“I always heard it was a place full of muscular people trying to prove something, and that you had to already be in shape. Until I joined, I realized how wrong that was.”

Instead, she found experienced coaches who meet every member where they’re at and workouts that can be adapted for any fitness level.

Why She Took the Leap

Like many people, Sophie had a few reasons for finally giving it a try.

She wanted to feel her best before her wedding next spring, she’d always been curious about CrossFit, and she was looking for a place that would push her outside her comfort zone.

Plus, as she jokes:

“It looked like fun, and I wanted to tell everyone, ‘I do CrossFit!'”

Her Advice to Someone Who’s Nervous

If someone is thinking about trying CrossFit but feels intimidated, Sophie’s advice is simple:

“Just try! You have nothing to lose but a chance to do something you never knew you could.”

Investing in Yourself

When asked what she’d say to someone who thinks CrossFit is expensive, Sophie offers a perspective that’s hard to argue with.

“Everything is expensive these days, but this is an investment in yourself for the long run. Spend money on something that will make a difference for your future—something you’ll look back on and say, ‘Wow.'”

Learning You Can Do Hard Things

Perhaps the biggest transformation hasn’t been physical at all.

“As Coach Jacqui says, Yes, I can do hard things. I feel empowered after every workout. I know reaching my goals will take time, but this journey has shown me that I’m capable of putting in the work.”

Sophie’s story is a reminder that you don’t have to be fit before you start. You just have to be willing to walk through the door.

If you’ve been thinking about finding a place where you’ll be coached, challenged, and genuinely supported, we’d love to meet you. Just like Sophie, you might be surprised by what you’re capable of.
